Description

This module introduces students to a variety of key theories, methods and concepts in the study of Sociology. It examines a number of issues in contemporary society including our changing understanding of class, gender and ethnicity; the changing role played by different institutions of state - for example Parliament, the courts, the education system and the media - in determining the relationship between individuals and the state; and it explores a range of concepts of sociological interest including, for example, theories of socialisation, stratification, globalisation, crime and deviance.
